A Time of Reflection and Community
Ramadan is the holy month observed by Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting from sunrise to sunset, increased prayer, and acts of charity. In Guyana, communities come together to share iftar meals, attend evening prayers, and support charitable initiatives, creating a period of spiritual reflection and communal unity.
The National Ramadan Village offers a meaningful opportunity to experience and appreciate Islamic culture in a deeper and respectful way. The village feature several personalities preparing delicious treats for free sampling. Join the festivities every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during Ramadan from 4:00 pm at Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana, Woolford Avenue.
Cultural Tip: When visiting during Ramadan, it’s respectful to avoid eating or drinking in public during fasting hours and to be mindful of local customs. Many households and mosques welcome visitors to join iftar (the breaking of the fast), providing a chance to experience Guyanese hospitality and cuisine.
Pro Tip: Plan activities around fasting schedules, and use the evenings for cultural or social events to fully enjoy the community experience.
