Kids are out from school and the sun is shining in beautiful Guyana. This edition of Insights by Stabroek shares some information on Caricom Day, a national holiday celebrated in Guyana and other countries in the Caribbean, some more activities to keep your children busy and day tour information on Kaieteur Falls, a must see attraction for any one visiting or living in Guyana. For the cricket fans on our list, CPL is returning and Guyana will be hosting the last leg of the tournament in September. Be sure to get your tickets early as those tickets are coveted and are usually the first to be sold out.


For those of you who wish to do some regional travelling we offer information on Barbados, which is a short one and a half hour flight away serviced by Inter Caribbean Airways or Caribbean Airlines.

Caricom Day – 4th July 2023

Celebrated annually on the first Monday in July, Caricom Day marks the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas where the four founding member countries Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica established the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM).


CARICOM is an intergovernmental organisation that is a political and economic union of 20 member states (15 full members and 5 associates). They have primary objectives to promote economic integration and cooperation among its members, ensure that the benefits of integration are equitably shared, and coordinate foreign policy. It’s aim of the promote and support a unified Caribbean. This year the body celebrates 50 years of regional integration.
